Maryland Robin Range Breeding Habits and Value

The robin is described as the best known North American bird found across the U.S. and Canada, including Maryland. It migrates, winters in Maryland, and has increased with forest clearing. It averages about 10 inches, with a black head, red breast, and yellow bill. Males arrive early, defend territory, and nests in low trees or odd spots. It lays 4-5 greenish blue eggs and feeds on earthworms, insects, and some fruit. The text notes ongoing protection and the bird’s aesthetic and insect-control value, while acknowledging it occasionally becomes a nuisance during fruit ripening.
