The American Legion Post 29 hosts a February 4 dance at the Denton Armory to raise funds for the Caroline County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Lou Startt and his orchestra provide the music. admission is 1.20 dollars per person with all proceeds to polio relief.

Clerk Dies As 100th Birthday Nears
The Rev. L. Scott Matthews retired Michigan Methodist minister and Ridgely’s oldest resident, died Tuesday night at his home two weeks shy of his 100th birthday. Born February 13, 1849 in Ohio, he moved to Ridgely in 1910 with his wife and family. He served the church until 1910, then remained active locally, often filling pulpit as guest preacher and aiding civic causes. Survived by son Frank and daughters Ada Stella Elsie and Mrs William Harrison, all of Ridgely. Public birthday receptions ceased in 1940, replaced by informal gatherings at his home. in 1942 he received the Michigan Conference cane after Dr James Potts’s death.

The Peoples Bank of Denton held its annual stockholders meeting at the Denton Community House on Tuesday January 25 from 1 to 3 pm. Over fifty stockholders attended as Wilbert L. President Nuttle highlighted 1948 bank growth while deposits lagged. a booster club was urged to attract new business. A unanimous vote approved amendments authorizing a fifty percent stock dividend as of February 1 1949. The Del-Mar-Va Council plans a 111205.33 budget to support Scouting in 14 counties on the Del-Mar-Va peninsula beginning February 7 during Boy Scout Week marking the 39th anniversary of Scouting in America. Caroline County organizers include Max Chambers and local chairmen. 132 communities participate. 1948 enrollment surpassed 10,900 with a 10.8 percent gain. Caroline County served 250 boys and 72 Scouters in 1948 across 1 pack 7 troops and 2 senior units. 1949 needs total 2300 for Pack 137 under Cubmaster Allen Smith.

Organ recital by Maitland at First Methodist Church
Philadelphia organist and choirmaster Dr Rollo Maitland presented an organ recital at First Methodist Church last Monday to a large audience from nearby towns including Ridgely Dover Milford St Michaels and Easton. A Talbot Music Club delegation attended and were hosted at Shad owlawn after the recital. A $500 donation from Dr H A Brown Dunnings was announced for organ maintenance and related activities. Dr Dunning donated the organ in 1931 in memory of his mother Mary Ellen Dunnings.
