After one month of regular instruction, 110 adults are enrolled in evening classes across Federalsburg Denton and Greensboro area schools. The arts and crafts class led by Walter Rau has 30 members, with 12 in Caroline High School, 15 in Federalsburg High School, and 20 in Greensboro High School in commercial subjects. A sewing class at Denton has 15 members taught by Kathryn Higgins, while Hattie Brown at Lockerman School in Denton supervises 18 in practical mathematics. Openings remain in some courses and interested adults should contact the respective principals.

Judge Knotts, 69, Dies After Six Month Illness
James Owen Knotts, chief judge of the Second Judicial Circuit of Maryland, died January 27 at his Denton home. Born 1892 near Ridgely, he served since 1933, chaired the circuit’s executive committee, and held roles in state judiciary reforms and legal associations. Funeral in St. Elizabeth’s Church followed by interment in Denton cemetery. Surviving: wife Margaret. daughters Mrs. George F. Huber Jr. and Mrs. Quentin R. Walsh. son James Owen Knotts III. two granddaughters and two grandsons.

The current 900 square foot facility must vacate by July 1, with a $75,000 estimate and federal aid possible for three years.
