The UAW CIO argues for a 30 percent pay rise for General Motors based on ability to pay, but critics say the approach undermines equal pay for equal work and could lead to higher wages at GM and lower at rivals, risking profitability and potential monopolies. The union seeks to audit profits, while GM says the tactic is a power grab to control company operations.
