Maryland Racegoers Survey Highlights Fun in High Class Racing

A survey finds the average Maryland racegoer is a 35 year old church member with upper middle income who attends about once a year. They prefer high class racing to cheap, enjoy distance races, and occasionally holiday by watching good horses. If only gambling, they’d attend more and not favor the finest racing. Maryland’s four Racing Associations contribute annually to state hospitals via taxes. Maryland competes with several states to hold its racing position, with horsemen urging support for Maryland tracks to maintain status.
