Rites Held Tuesday for Thomas Alan Goldsborough Jr
Thomas Alan Goldsborough Jr. son of a district court justice died suddenly at Garfield Hospital Washington after a long illness. A brief service was held Tuesday at 9 30 a m at Hines Funeral Home with 2 p m services at Christ Episcopal Church Denton and interment in Denton Cemetery. He was educated at Staunton Military Academy and University of Maryland law school and worked in newspapers and with the President Steamship Line. He lived in China and later worked for the Senate Truman Investigating Committee. Survived by wife Edna Austin and siblings, with extended Washington and Eastern Shore friends attending.

Avon Hotel in Easton Destroyed by Fire
A five story Avon Hotel in Easton was destroyed by a morning blaze causing about 65 thousand dollars in damage. Thirty guests fled into freezing weather in night clothes as six fire companies fought the fire supported by additional crews from Denton Preston Federalsburg and Hurlock. The roof collapsed after an hour and water froze on the hose causing slippery conditions though no injuries were reported.

Train Hits Truck Demolishes Lumber Trailer Near Clayton
A Northbound Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train struck a Nuttle Lumber & Coal Co. trailer at the Jimtown crossing south of Clayton last Friday night at 6. The trailer carrying lumber scattered debris for about a half mile. Truck operator Lester Carroll of Denton suffered a facial laceration and a injured right hand, was hospitalized at Dover, and returned home Wednesday in better condition.

A Maryland air raid blackout test shows the red signal failing to sound while the blue two minute blast was weak and heard by few. street lights stayed on for the all clear. Denton Fire Company answered a Saturday morning alarm after a fire burned a hole in John Wesley M. E. Church on Gay Street, about fifty dollars damage. On Monday Easton Company responded to a blaze at the Avon Hotel, with about two hours on scene and 15 pumpers deployed.
