Baking Demonstration At Denton January 24
A baking school sponsored by the Maryland University extension service will be held at First Methodist Church in Denton January 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Miss Bessie M. Spafford, home demonstration agent of Caroline county, announced that local project demonstrators, trained by Miss Margaret McPheeters, nutrition specialist of Maryland University, will demonstrate the preparation of certain foods. The program targets adults in Caroline county including homemakers and others interested in cooking.

Shore League officials at Easton could not pick a successor to J. Thomas Kibler who resigned after the 1946 season. Five candidates were named: Sheldon Jones of Salisbury Caleb Layton of Georgetown Del Dallas Culver of Seaford Pat Keyes of Wilmington and E Millard Tawes of Crisfield. Kibler would reconsider within a week. Attending guests included Arthur H. Ehlers and Gene Martin with writers from the Eastern Shore Sportswriters Association.

Ernest J. Pearson was elected president of the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company at its annual meeting for 1947. Officers chosen include Norman Baynard as vice-president, Clarence Pearson as secretary-treasurer, and W. Byron Poore as fire-chief with two assistants. Delegates to the Caroline County Firemen's Association were named, and the company logged 35 calls in 1946, chimneys fires leading the list with nine. 447 local firemen attended the year’s fires.

Lane inaugurated Maryland governor in formal Annapolis ceremony
William Preston Lane Jr was sworn in as Maryland governor in a noon ceremony in the Senate chamber attended by the Senate House of Delegates and crowds. Chief Judge Ogle Marbury administered the oath. Lane delivered the inaugural address amid a heavily decorated State House and security by about 300 officers. The day featured two receptions and Senate confirmation of John B. Funk as Secretary of State, with a broad mix of friends officials and spectators in attendance.

Firemen's Fourth Annual Drive For Honorary Members Started
The Denton Volunteer Fire Company begins its fourth annual drive to recruit honorary members as it nears its 25th anniversary aiming for 1000 honorees this year. Fire calls rose slightly with total damage estimated at 22,370 dollars, plus 76 ambulance trips to multiple cities.
