Caroline Chapter Installs Officers

Caroline Chapter No. 62 of the Order of the Eastern Star held a January 1 installation. Florence Messer became Worthy Matron with A. E. Miller as Worthy Patron. numerous officers were inducted and Mildred C. Butler received a Past Matron's pin from her husband Louis Butler, Worshipful Master of Temple Lodge No. 128.

WSCS Meeting at Dover Sets January 15 1948 Date

The Peninsula Conference Women’s Society of Christian Service holds its annual meeting at Wesley Methodist Church Dover Delaware on Thursday January 15 1948 at 10 am Miss Gloria Wysner secretary of Foreign Missions Conference of North America will speak in the morning. Mrs Fred C Reynolds vice president in charge of the Department of Work of the Home Field will speak in the afternoon.

Martha Zeigler Rites Held For Denton Widow At Saturday Funeral

Funeral services for Mrs Martha Zeigler 86 widow of Eno H Zeigler Denton farmer were conducted Saturday by Rev Wayne E Wheeler. Burial followed in Denton cemetery. Cancer Clinics To Be Held On Shore

Cancer clinics announced in Denton Elkton and Salisbury with dates in January and contact numbers. The notice states surgery x ray and radium as recognized cancer treatments and advocates a complete physical examination every six months as best insurance against cancer.

Denton Bobcats Face Dover and Cecilton Next Week

Denton Bobcats, riding a five game win streak, prepare for back to back Denton league games against Dover Guard on Wednesday January 14 and Cecilton Drakes on Thursday January 15. Dover sits second with six of seven starts. Cecilton is improving and not to be overlooked. The earlier January 5 win over Harrington 46 to 29 featured rough play on slick floors, with injuries including a knee contusion to Skip Coalla and a bleeding mouth for Bill Murdoch. Prosen led Denton with 11 points, as the box score shows strong contributions from Swecker and Diffey among others.

Phone Expansion To Be Completed Soon In Denton

A 58000 expansion project to add aerial cable and extend rural lines in Denton will be finished by mid 1948. The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company announces 217 miles of steel line wire 40600 feet of aerial cable 400 feet of submarine cable and 576 poles. Growth noted: telephones in service rose from 500 in 1942 to 800 in 1947.

Greensboro Fire Co Elects Lacey Nichols as President

At the annual meeting of the Greensboro Fire Company Lacey Nichols was elected president, succeeding Ernest J. Pearson. Other officers named include Edward G. Dean as vice president, Clarence Pearson as secretary treasurer, Carl H. Nichols and Leslie Wyatt as directors, with W. Byron Poore as fire chief and various assistants and captains elected. The company answered 31 calls in 1947.

Farm Institute Dates Set for Denton January 28-30

F M Rogers Caroline County Agent announced a three day Farm Institute to be held January 28 29 and 30 at the Armory and Denton high school. Caroline county farm folk from Farm Bureau Grange 4 H Older Youth 4 H Club members Associated Women Poultry Association and others will discuss economic production and efficient marketing of crops. The tomato growers and tax ditch committees will plan for the year. The Caroline County Poultry Association banquet will close the event Friday night January 30 at the Denton Community House with guest speaker J C Huttar of GLF Cooperation New York State.

Mrs Mabel Rollison Rites Held At Lane's Funeral Home

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Ludwig Rollison 58 a Ridgely native were conducted at Lane's Funeral Home Church Hill. She died Sunday in Betterton after a brief illness and is buried in St Paul’s Cemetery Ridgely. Survivors include husband John D Rollison and eight grandchildren plus her children from her first marriage Mrs Edward Gallagher Mrs A R Beaven and Mrs Edgar Flaggs of Baltimore.

Funeral services for Wilhelmina Peters held January fourth

Mrs Wilhelmina Peters died January second at her daughter Evelyn Peters home in Denton She resided in Jacksonville Florida and belonged to St Marks Lutheran Church Survived by daughter Gertrude Totten of Schenectady and three grandchildren

Caroline Tax Funds Distributed to Maryland Regions

State Comptroller James J. Lacy announced a six month race track tax distribution totaling 1,308,347 to Maryland counties and Baltimore city on a population basis led by Baltimore city at 617,161 and ending with Calvert county at 7,531. Counties may allocate to incorporated towns per local decisions, with funds limited to capital assets.
