Extra Session of Assembly Hinted in Maryland Politics

An extra session of the Maryland Assembly could yield a gentleman's agreement to limit the Legislature's scope. It is axiomatic that the Governor, or any Governor, dislikes returning the body to full latitude, staying thirty days in the State Capital if desired.

Constitution limits on governor in special sessions

Under the State Constitution the Governor can call a special session to address a specific matter but cannot force it to focus only on that issue. The Executive cannot compel legislators to stay beyond the thirty days. Unless a majority of legislators and party leaders agree to confine work, anything can happen, making special sessions unpopular.
