Electric Company Honors Denton Office for Safety Record

Eastern Shore Public Service Company awarded honor certificates to Denton Office employees for a twelve month period ending December 31 with no personal injury accidents. Two-star, one-star silver certificates were given to long service workers Maurice Hall, H. H. Smith, Harry Richardson, P. A. Croll, and J. H. McAllister for five to ten years without lost time. A special certificate recognized the Denton Office for a year without any accident causing time loss.

Orphans Court Approves Multiple Administerships in Session

The Orphans Court met with Judges Towers Handy and Dennis. Letters of administration on the estates of Hester R. Wyatt and George T. Shockley were granted to named heirs with bonds approved and creditors notified. Appointments included Bertha E. Moore Georgia F. Dill and Harry Jones Susie Thornton. Accounts, renunciations, appraisers named, and petitions filed in several estates.

Miss Smith Addresses Students On Cold Awareness

Miss Smith the county health nurse spoke to fourth to sixth graders about colds, urging prompt care, reporting to health authorities, and home remedies. She warned that even light colds can threaten lungs and heart and advised eight hours sleep, fluids, fresh air, hand washing, and medical consultation.

Fire wipes out Marydel store owned by Bowdle

A 20000 dollar blaze destroyed Elmer Bowdle’s general merchandise store in Marydel last Wednesday at 2 am. Three fire units from Hardy, Dover and Greensboro battled flames for two and a half hours, saving no contents. Three nearby rooms were damaged and service interruptions followed. Bowdle, in Baltimore for treatment, returned after the blaze.

March First Deadline for Starting Farm Account Books

Mary land 4 H members urged to begin farm account books by March 1, the final date to open records for the fifth National 4 H Farm Account Contest. Books must cover 12 months and may start Jan 1 or Feb 1. Contestants submit a 1000 word profit and loss analysis. Prizes range from 5 to 26 dollars, with top honors up to 500 dollars.

Beef Shanks With Noodles For Thrift Cooker Time

Beef shanks are cut into cubes and seasoned with salt and pepper then dredged in flour. Brown in a frying pan, add onion and meat sauce with tomato juice and water. Simmer for about two hours, add noodles and cook twenty minutes more. Serve with sweet potatoes and slaw.
