Roberts sets Daytona 500 speed record in chaotic finish

Glenn Fireball Roberts won the Daytona 500 in a record 3 hours 10 minutes 41 seconds, averaging 152.529 mph. Richard Petty finished second amid a protest over pit crew size, Elzie Buck Baker was hospitalized after a guard rail crash, and Junior Johnson retired on lap 72.

New Wing Announced For Methodist Country House

The Country House in Wilmington Delaware plans a late summer 1962 occupancy for a new infirmary wing raising capacity to just over 200 residents. The project is funded by a Wilmington donor and marks private fundraising success. The facility opens doors to nonrestricted public visits and features a chapel dining room library and social spaces aimed at senior care.

District 22 B Ladies Night Banquet in Salisbury

The District 22 B Lions will host a Ladies Night banquet and dance honoring District Governor Earl W. Roberts at the Wicomico Youth Center Salisbury Md at 7 pm Saturday March 3 1962. Guest speaker will be Lion Claude M DeVorss Wichita Kan Third Vice-President Lions International. An orchestra will provide music for dancing. All Lions Lionesses and guests are invited.

Heart Sunday Observed with Feb 25 Campaign Update

Heart Sunday will be observed in Caroline County on February 25 as volunteers complete the door to door drive. The Heart Fund effort under Dr. M. A. Brackett seeks to raise resources for research and education, with envelopes left at homes and mailed gifts encouraged through local headquarters.

Formal Opening Of County Library To Be Held Feb. 24

The Caroline County Public Library opens at Headquarters 212 Market Street Denton with hours 12 to 4 pm. A bookmobile, capacity 2,400 volumes, will begin service in April. Trustees and staff listed. library stock includes 2,000 new books and 5,000 used from local libraries. Borrowing limits set per adult, school age, and preschool child rules.

Historical Society To Show Films Tonight

The Caroline Historical Society will host an educational meeting Friday February 23 at 7 30 pm in the Episcopal Parish House Denton. Two films, Mayflower Story and The Pilgrims, will be shown with no admission. The event invites the public to attend.
