Navy Seeks Women Volunteers to Boost Wave Enlistments

Maryland Senate Approves 15 Percent Income Tax Cut
The Maryland Senate voted to save taxpayers 3 million dollars with a fifteen percent income tax cut this year and moved a bill to add at least 2 million dollars annually to future budgets. It supported Finance Committee reports on trimming income tax and transferring the State police budget back to the general fund. A rival sales tax cut bill was held up for now, with unfavorable committee outlook unless budget costs are reduced. Preliminary state approval passed unanimously by voice vote with no debate.

Altfather Attends Federal Land Bank Meeting
Denton resident John W. Altfather attended the annual stockholders meeting of The Federal Land Bank of Baltimore in Baltimore on February 19 and 20. He noted that the National Farm Loan Association of Easton and 35 other associations own the Baltimore Land Bank and provide farm loans via the associations. The 35th anniversary was celebrated at a dinner after the meeting. The bank makes long term mortgage loans to farmers and has loaned several million dollars in the region.

Funeral Services for Denton Farmer Charles Roe
Charles Winfred Roe, 77, a retired farmer from Denton, died Saturday after long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p m at his home, with Rev. Dr. John French and Rev. Thomas Turkington officiating. Burial followed in Denton Cemetery. He was born to Charles and Rebecca Jane Butler Roe of Caroline County, survived by wife Anna Carroll, son Dawson and two grandchildren, plus brother Fred Roe of Ridgely.

Federal Land Bank Stockholders Meeting Held February 19
The Federal Land Bank of Baltimore held its annual stockholders meeting on February 19 at the Emerson Hotel in Baltimore marking its 35th anniversary. Secretary-treasurer Holsinger said the bank is owned by its member associations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and Puerto Rico, with loans to farmers through those bodies. The following day directors from the national farm loan associations and production credit associations met. Hugh Bennett, Special Assistant to the Secretary of Agriculture, delivered the principal address at the dinner. The Baltimore bank reported over 10 million dollars in loans in 1951 to about 1,600 farmers, with a total of 230 million dollars in loans since organization.
