Rites Held For William C. Reed
The death of William Cosden Reed, 77, at his Denton area home after months of heart illness. A native of Queen Anne's County, he farmed there before moving to Caroline County 21 years ago. He married Maria Louisa Porter in 1892 at Salem Church. Funeral service was held at Thawley's Chapel, interment in Crumpton Cemetery. Survived by widow, three sons, four daughters, a brother, a sister, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs Florence Elizabeth Chambers 56 widow of William Chambers farmer between Denton and Preston who ran a general store at Anderson town were held Thursday at 2 pm in the family home. The Rev John E French officiated. Burial followed in Denton cemetery. She died at home after a two year illness. Survivors include her husband two sons William Edward Chambers Federalsburg and Marvin Chambers Preston a daughter Mrs John A Moir San Antonio Texas wife of Capt J A Moir of the Medical Corps stationed at Duncan Field Texas five brothers Roy Emmett Chance Baltimore Charles Centreville Roland Wilmington and Lewis Chance Bart Pa and two sisters Mrs DeFord Denton and Mrs Enos Cleaves Burrsville.

Mrs Nora Bell Collins of Denton aged 70 died Thursday at Memorial Hospital Easton from a paralytic stroke after three years of poor health. Born June 28, 1874, she married Robert Collins October 19, 1894 in Harrington. She lived much of her life in Caroline County and was a Grace Methodist Church member in Denton. Survived by son Harold Collins of Claymont Del a daughter Mrs Tilghman Rash Ridgely four grandchildren four great grandchildren one sister Mrs William Makens Philadelphia Funeral services were held at Boyers Funeral Home Harrington Sunday at 2 pm with Rev Thomas J Turkington of Denton officiating and interment in Harrington cemetery.

Norman T. Smith, 43, died last Monday morning after a period of illness. Funeral services were held at Boyer Funeral Home Harrington on Thursday at 2 PM with Rev. Milton Elliott of Farmington officiating due to the absence of Rev. T. C. Jones. Interment followed at Hollywood Cemetery.

Mrs Wilmer B Parker of Denton chairs the Caroline County Red Cross War Fund drive starting March 1 with a quota of 10600. Denton leads with 8541, Federalsburg 3384, Greensboro 850, Ridgely 775, Preston 3750, Hillsboro 475, Goldsboro 250, Marydel 85, Henderson 60, Harmony 50, American Corners 50, Williston 50, Burrsville 50, Bridgetown 50, Hickman 60, Andersonstown Hobbs 50 each for two communities. A special gifts committee from Denton Rotary Club includes Wilbert Merriken and others. The chapter has produced 864 kits, 406 pints of plasma, and numerous hospital items, and maintains armed forces contact for illness support.
