State Comptroller J Millard Tawes of Crisfield filed candidacy papers for the Democratic nomination for governor ending party leaders’ bids to avert a primary. Tawes joins a three way race as attempts to persuade Baldwin and Lane to bow out failed. He calls for Chesapeake Bay ferry night trips an annual state budget and more equal distribution of race track taxes.

George Theis Calls Home From Munich
George Theis reports a long distance call from Munich to his father at 1706 N Division St Salisbury. Theis 21, a Wisconsin high graduate, trained as glider pilot in 1942 and earned wings in 1944. He served with 440 Troop Carrier Squadron airborne Rhine crossing and is now tower control officer and provost marshal with the 14th Liaison Squadron in Germany. He holds the Air Medal Bronze Star and Presidential Unit Citation. He expects 45 day leave in April before returning to Europe.

An all day conference of Caroline county poultrymen including broiler egg and hatchery producers will be held at the high school auditorium in Denton on February 22 starting at 10 am. C C Warren from the USDA poultry marketing branch will discuss the general poultry outlook. Dr Morley A Jull from College Park and University of Maryland will talk on Market Eggs Broiler and Hatchery Problems. Dr G M Briggs poultry nutrition specialist will discuss the corn and wheat shortage. Dr H M DeVault from the livestock sanitary service will speak on Disease and Parasite Control.

At the annual meeting in Greensboro on February 1 1946 Leslie Wyatt was elected president of the Caroline County Firemen’s Association. Buck Willis Returns From Jap Island
Cpl. Charles Willis known as Buck arrived home from Nachinohe Honshu Japan the first of the month after 38 months in the U S Army and 19 months overseas. He received an honorable discharge at Fort George G Meade. Buck served with the 81st Wildcat Division popular in Palau and Angaur. He is son of Mr and Mrs Edgar S Willis of Denton.

Captain Robert N. Roberts, son of Mr and Mrs O E Roberts of Denton, returns home after flying a C-47 from Miami to Chungking China and a cross continental route via Brazil Africa the Sahara Holy Land India and The Hump. Greensboro WSCS Holds First Meeting of Year
Greensboro W S C S Circle No 3 led by Mrs John Jarvis met at her home on February 11 with fourteen members and four visitors. Rev Charles Davis opened with prayer, readings were by Mrs G Harrison Nashold, and Mrs Claude Rawlings led devotions and discussed These Moving Times by Hermann N Morse. Members reported 47 visits, 59 cards, and one Sunshine basket to the sick. Guests welcomed back Mrs Rawlings and Mrs Frederick Spence after illness.
