Pat Knight of Dover is re-elected president of the Mar-Del Baseball League at a Hartly reorganization meeting. Charles T. Baker becomes secretary and publicity director. Seven clubs attended from Harrington, Church Hill, Hartly, Houston, Greensboro, Denton and Felton. Bridgeville hopes to join. A 28-game schedule runs May 5 to Labor Day with double headers on Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day. a September playoff is planned. The next meeting is March 10 in Greensboro. Manager Cy Cole plans a DENTON team meeting to recruit players and equipment help.

Firemen's Annual Drive Nears Goal in Denton
The Denton Volunteer Fire Company drive ends Saturday with $2727.50 raised toward a $3000 goal. Sixty five donors across Denton, Hillsboro, Queen Anne, Hobbs, Seaford, Bethlehem, Miami and Oakland contributed this week totaling 605 businesses and families. The drive notes average gifts rose seven cents to about $4.51 from 33 donors this week as organizers expect to hit the target at close.

Legion To Hold A Benefit Dance March 6
The Caroline County Post 29 American Legion will host a benefit dance March 6 at Armory Hall Denton from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. featuring the Dixieland Jazz Band, same group that played at the February 5 Infantile Paralysis Dance. Proceeds aid veterans rehabilitation and hospitalized veterans with the Veterans Administration.

Poultrymen Urged To Watch Trends At Meeting
Harry H. Rieck of the North Eastern Poultry Producers Council called for creating a coordinated body with an executive secretary to monitor trends and revive a poultry industry he described as flat on its back. He warned losses were preventable if trends were watched and urged a $5,000 to $6,000 fund from broiler growers to establish the group.

Firemen Battle Hay Fire Near Denton
Denton firefighters battled a hay fire at John W Allfather’s farm two miles west of Denton from 5 20 PM for nearly three hours. A brisk wind fanned the flames as they pumped water from a rear stream and extinguished the blaze after 2 hours and 55 minutes with an estimated $750 loss including meat. The Allfather family served sandwiches and coffee to the crew after.

Plans for the Caroline County Red Cross annual campaign begin March 1 with a $3,400 quota for the chapter. Denton chair Russum Orme leads $1,000. other communities set quotas from $25 to $1,000.
