Sophie Kerr Underwood, NY novelist and short story writer, sold her Denton childhood home to William S. Orme and Martha B. Orme of Denton. The 90 acre estate, once owned by Jonathan W. Kerr since 1872, lies near the Denton Poizer Landing road and borders the Choptank River. The two story white house sits with evergreen hedges, magnolias and holly concealing it from the busy road. Mrs. Underwood reportedly offered the farm to the university for an experiment station with restrictions.

Funeral services for T Frank Seward 73 former Caroline county treasurer and Republican leader were held at J Virgil Moore funeral home in Denton with Rev J E Parker officiating and burial in Denton cemetery. He died in Cambridge Hospital after two years illness. Survived by widow Annie Seward three daughters one sister five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. son Mervin Seward killed in an earlier airplane accident.

Governor O Conor urged extending the Chesapeake Bay cross bay ferry to include night runs when manpower allows Residents of Denton and Easton requested night service noting the new ferry boat from Maryland Drydock Co will boost bay ferry traffic by about 50 percent Frank Sherman ferry system general manager said demand for night service is rising and that with the new vessel there is no reason not to run through the night Traffic trends show a strong upturn in ferry use with January automobile traffic up roughly 60 percent from the previous year and total ferry passengers rising about 39 percent to 67110
