Harmony Church Plans Largest Expansion Soon

Religious Census Planned for Caroline County Sunday

Lions and Denton clubs oppose James Report telegrams
On February 2 the Denton Lions Club sent telegrams to the Governor Sen Hughes Delegate Blades and Delegate Wise urging defeat of the James Report. The message said the fifty members bitterly oppose the measure. Sen Hughes gave a noncommittal reply. The Denton Woman's Club backed the stand with a telegram to the Governor.

North of town By-Pass urged by Board of Education
The Northern By-Pass proposal for Denton, Maryland, was unanimously endorsed by the Board of Education at a recent meeting. A letter dated February 9, 1960, to the Caroline County Commissioners requests official support and notification to the State Roads Commission. The board argues the northern route would provide safer access to North Caroline High School and save county funds versus routing traffic via Route 404. Superintendent Wilbur S. Hoopengardner signs the letter.

Child Deserters Fined And Sentenced Monday
On February 8 Chief Judge J DeWeese Carter sentenced Willard Doherty to 60 days for two counts of contributing to the neglect of a minor child. Earlier, February 4, Magistrate Wright sentenced Wilson States and Eleanor Melvin to one year each, suspended, with $100 fines. in default, 60 days jail. The case involved abandonment of a small child on Ridgely streets on November 4. Judge Wright on February 9 collected $80.50 in fines for minors possessing alcohol. On February 1 Judge Tilghman fined George Carmen and Lee Williams $10 each for disorderly conduct, Mary Mason $10 for assault, and Carey Briggs $10 for indecent exposure.

Senator Harry R. Henderson School To Close June 30 1960
The Henderson School will close June 30 1960 by a unanimous Board of Education decision at the February 2 1960 meeting. The building once housed a high school now serves grades one through four with fifty five pupils. A parent survey showed only seventeen would enroll next year. Students will transfer to Greensboro School starting September. Older students already attend Greensboro or North Carolina High School.
