Memorial Service For Memorial Held By Fire Group
Memorial services were held Friday at Grace Methodist Church Denton for Caro line County volunteer fire company members and Ladies Auxiliary. Maryland State Firemen's Association chaplain Rev James W Minter praised volunteer firefighters as sacrificial, hardworking people who serve others. Forty three firefighters answered the last call and carnations were placed on their memories. Six auxiliary members Lydia Charles Linda Ross Naomi Jones Ruth Anna Nichols H F Silver and Alice Sylvester were honored as guests of the roll call. A reception at the fire house followed the service.

Towers Celebrate 55th Wedding Anniversary Open House
Mr and Mrs C Wesley Towers of American Corner marked their fifty fifth wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 8 pm on Sunday January 27. About 150 relatives and friends attended. A three tier cake, ice cream and assorted confections were served amid yellow and green decorations. The couple were married January 27, 1897 at Harmony Methodist Church. Mrs Nichols daughter of the late Emily and Thomas Nichols, and Mr Towers son of the late Elizabeth and James Towers. They have spent their married life near American Corner. Mr Towers is a retired farmer. Gratitude was expressed for the good wishes, flowers and gifts received.
