Denton Area Polio Drive Campaign Seeks $5000
The Denton area March of Dimes campaign continues with a cake sale at Old Silco Store on Friday February 8 starting at 10 a.m. The Caroline County Chapter spent over $2,000 assisting three polio patients last year and aims to raise at least $5,000 to continue care, education, and research efforts. Sixty percent of funds stay local for hospitalization and patient needs, while the rest goes to national headquarters. Between now and February 9 residents will be solicited to donate.

Changes In Aviation Cadet Program Requirements
The Air Force has cut the enlistment period for aviation cadets with two or more years of college from four to two years. Civilians with a qualifying letter or telegram may enlist for the new minimum. Pilot training is at Goodfellow AFB Texas and aircraft observer at Ellington AFB Texas, with advanced courses at various locations. Information is available from the Masonic Building recruiting station in Easton.

OPS Field Office Opens February 6 1952
A Maryland OPS field office opens in Denton at the Court House County Commissioner’s Room on Wednesday February 6 from 2 to 5 p m. The office will be staffed by OPS specialists to assist businesspeople with OPS regulations. Hugo R Hoffmann says OPS aims to hold the line against inflation and help Maryland businesses comply.

Denton Fire Company Reports 1951 Activity
Denton Volunteer Fire Company logged 913 man hours responding to 72 alarms in 1951 with an average of 14 men per alarm. Each man spent about 65 hours on calls. Estimated loss set at $35,765. A two-alarm system will go into effect February 1, 1952, after nine weeks of a twenty week fire fighting course.

Caroline County Sweet Corn Peak 1951 Canning Output
Caroline County farmers produced about 6,950 tons of sweet corn in 1951 for canners, enough to fill around 4,431,000 cans and about 10 percent of Maryland’s total sweet corn for processing. Maryland had 40 canneries packing roughly 48 million containers, with 285 farms growing the crop commercially.
