Peoples Bank of Denton to become The Peoples Bank of Maryland

At the annual meeting held January 28 in Denton Maryland stockholders voted to amend the banks charter by removing Denton from its name. The new name will be The Peoples Bank of Maryland after approval by state authorities. Directors reelected include Harry H Nuttle E Theodore Orme H Coursey Edwards Bernard H Kibler Wilbert L Merriken Judson C Bateman More than 80 attendees cast a record 6453 votes.

Wayne Cawley Jr to speak at Denton PTA meeting

Wayne Cawley Jr will discuss the New Proposed State Aid To Education Program at the Denton School PTA meeting on Monday February 10 at 7 30 pm. Mrs Mezick's class will present a Lincoln program. Visitation begins 7 15 in the Primary Building and 7 30 in the Main Building. At 8 00 parents gather in the auditorium for a brief business meeting and the program.

Hootenanny at North Caroline hosts folk sing along

The National Honor Society of North Caroline sponsors a Hootenanny this Saturday from 8 to 10 PM. Master of ceremonies Fred Asilton will host guest performers Donald Raft Charles Dent and Mr and Mrs Terry DeWald. Attendees are urged to bring guitars and join in. Refreshments sold during intermission. Admission is 25 cents.

Seminary Singers To Perform At St Luke's

The Wesley Seminary Singers from Wesley Theological Seminary Washington DC will present a concert of sacred music at St Luke's Methodist Church Denton on Monday February 10. The 38 semi professional vocalists include several soloists and perform a mix of seventeenth century classical works and American Negro spirituals inviting the public to attend.

Knott Receives Award At National Democratic Banquet

James Owen Knotts III States Attorney for Caroline County was cited at the Young Democratic Clubs of America awards banquet for papers he has written and was made an honorary citizen of Idaho. The citation was presented in Las Vegas on Saturday.

The Caroline County Garden Club gathered at Mrs Winfield T Nichols Den ton for its January session with President Mrs A T Blades presiding. Members planned a spring flower show for May 15 and discussed a trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show March 8 to 14.

Redden Named Aide To Finan

Roger D. Redden a Baltimore attorney was named assistant attorney general of Maryland by Thomas B. Finan the attorney general. 31 year old Redden formerly of Denton is son of Layman J. Redden and his wife. He is an associate at Smith Somerville and Case and serves on the Junior Bar Association of Baltimore City's executive committee. He attended Yale and Maryland Law School graduating in 1957 and was editor of the Maryland Law Review.

County youths named for service academies

Wicomico County representative Rogers C. Morton has named three Caroline County youths for academy appointments following the Service Academy Advisory Board’s recommendation. A2/c Charles R. Price of Denton is among four nominees for the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point New York. John I. Monroe Jr of Federalsburg is among eleven nominees for the Naval Academy at Annapolis. Donald A. Sutton of Ridgely is among ten nominees for the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs.

Chemical Test Law Must Be Bolstered In Maryland

Maryland State Police Colonel Carey Jarman cites weekly highway death stats to urge stronger chemical test laws. He notes social drinking roots and cites implied consent adoption in 13 states. Data show 50 percent of decedents in 80 weeks were alcohol-impaired. 77 percent of 1963 breath tests exceeded 15 percent blood alcohol.
