Southern States to Hold Regional Board Meeting in Denton
About 84 members of Southern States Cooperative local boards committees agricultural workers and agency managers from five states will attend a regional board meeting in Denton at the Denton Fire Hall on February 16 beginning at 10 a.m. The meeting will feature a report on six months of the 1964 65 fiscal year by James R. Ayers and a discussion of long range plans and farmer buying habits. F Burton Collins coordinates arrangements with attendees including Joseph W. Collins and local board members from Greensboro and Denton and Ridgely area representatives.

David W. King announced the 1964 United Fund Campaign results for Caroline County showing a goal of 30,564.00 and total contributions of 18,768.17 or 61.4 percent. After costs, 17,978.40 remains for eight agencies including American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Library, Girl Scouts, Memorial Hospital, Mental Health, Retarded Children, and Salvation Army with distributions ranging from 530.40 to 3,900.00. King thanked volunteers and noted a per capita of 90 cents and about 2.90 per family based on county population and families. future distributions will be ~60 percent of the goal unless increased funding is achieved.

Burglaries Plague Firms and Police in Caroline County
A rash of burglaries struck Caroline County businesses with state police investigating a Sunday break in at J Wilbur Carroll in Greensboro where about 600 dollars in cash and a .29 caliber pistol were taken. Denton saw a school break in and damage to soft drink machines with 20 to 25 dollars stolen. Caroline Home & Auto Supply and Smith Ford offices were also entered with vending machine loot and merchandise taken at the auto dealer. safes damaged. Three Williamsburg youths are in custody over the Preston Motor Co burglary and linked to nine other incidents.

Three Caroline Youths Nominated for Service Academies
Three Caroline County youths were nominated this week by Congressman Rogers C. B. Morton for service academy appointments. From West Point two of four nominees are Roger Hoppengardner of Denton and Robert T. Lynch of Ridgely. Frank L. Carson of Preston is nominated for the Air Force Academy. Interviews by service academy advisory boards recommended the candidates. There are three Air Force slots and two West Point openings in the district. Pennsylvania coal dealer dies on truck near Denton
Shamokin Pennsylvania coal dealer Florian Alchesky, 49, died in his truck of an apparent heart attack Monday morning after delivering coal to a customer near Denton. Denton Police Chief Tilghman Whitby said the pair paused at Central Ave and River Road to consult a road map when he was fatally stricken. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Dr. William Anderson's office in Denton.

Police Report 213 Accidents In Caroline
Maryland State Police report four fatal traffic accidents in Caroline County in 1964 with four fatalities. The county also logged 154 personal injuries in 93 personal injury crashes and 114 property damage accidents. Two non traffic accidents were reported, totaling 213 in the five county Easton area. Police at Easton barrack also noted 63 motor vehicle thefts with all but three recovered.
