Sophie Kerr Dies At 84 In New York Hospital
Sophie Kerr Underwood, known by her pen name Sophie Kerr, a Denton writer and former editor at Pittsburgh Chronicle Telegraph, died at 84 after a heart attack. Born in Caroline County, she authored 23 novels and many short stories for Women’s Home Companion and Saturday Evening Post, lived in New York for four decades, owned part of Denton land including Lions Park area, and funeral services were held at St James Episcopal Church in New York.
