Breeders Hear Herd Boosting Ideas This Week
Breeders in Caroline Talbot and Queen Anne's Counties heard methods to improve herds and milk production at a Denton meeting. Speakers included Earl N. Shultz of Peterborough NH detailing The Ten Year Breeding Program, emphasizing disease nutrition testing cooperation and a definite plan. Local experts Wi C Barker Richard Blackburn George W Clendaniel and Harry Cooper spoke. Clendaniel urged Shore dairies to ramp up effort as milk shipments rise from 50 to 100 pounds. A full time testing association was urged. Achaeons Guard of Clearview a Reserve Champion from Ridgely was shown for the first time after notable show success. Over 30 dairymen and specialists attended.

The Proposed Income Tax Exemptions Spotlighted
The Commission on Taxation and Revenue proposes exemptions of 1000 for individuals 2000 for married couples and 400 per dependent. It notes many in the lower income bracket would pay little or nothing. A single earner with 1200 yearly would owe 5 dollars on 200. A 3200 exemption for a three child married couple is cited. The 6 percent tax on dividends and interest is compared to a 4 percent mills tax, effectively a near nine percent flat tax on yield.

Roast Duck With Apple Stuffing
A 4 to 5 pound duck is seasoned with salt and pepper and roasted after stuffing with a dressing made from wheat bread crumbs onion apples poultry seasoning and hot water. The duck is rubbed with soft butter and roasted at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes per pound.
Spring Dollar Day in Wilmington Opens February 8
The Mercantile Section of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce announces Spring Dollar Day for Wednesday February 8. More than a hundred merchants will offer drastic price reductions on a full range of seasonable merchandise with official stores marked by a federal emblem. Stores open at 9 am with no advance reservations and the event will not be postponed by weather.
