Professor Elbert K. Fretwell of Columbia University spoke to 200 Boy Scout leaders at the Del-Mar-Va Peninsula annual meeting in the Hotel duPont Wilmington. Awards honored 25 and 20 year veterans, new troops formed across Delaware Maryland and the region, and the council reported a 121 percent enrollment rise in 1938 with 2890 Scouts in 166 troops.

State Budget Reduces Administration Costs and Debt
Governor Herbert R. O’Conor submits the 1940 1911 budget to the General Assembly promising economy with a $800000 annual cut in administrative costs and a net $9671000 reduction in bonded debt over the biennium. He adds $ to support public schools and details a balanced tax yield of $8500000, with no gas tax diversion or real estate tax hikes. Denton Production Credit Holds Fifth Annual Meeting
The Denton Production Credit Association held its fifth annual stockholders meeting in Denton on January 20 with 139 present and three directors elected Russell P. Smith Wim Dorsey Hines and M C Sherman. The association organized in 1931 has loaned Kent Queen Annes Dorchester Talbot and Caroline counties 18000 to support farming and now counts 420 members with 16215 in Class A and B stock. Victor Dean said loans were for constructive use not emergencies and are funded by short term bonds via the Intermediate Credit Banks.

A Denton gathering on Wednesday February 1 brings together about 100 farm people including Southern States Cooperative board members and directors of affiliated cooperatives to plan a cooperative program for farmers in the area. L. E. Raper says the 18 regional conferences span Maryland Delaware and Virginia and aim to coordinate farm progress and pool farmer effort. A dinner at 7 p.m. will be hosted by H. H. Nuttle with J. E. Givens leading discussions on past progress and 1939 objectives. O. E. Zacharies will speak on cooperative policies and growth. J. E. Givens oversees arrangements. Similar meetings follow in Newark Delaware February 2 and Benedict February 3.

Goldsborough Nominated for Federal Judgeship in DC
President Roosevelt sent to the Senate the nomination of Maryland Representative T Alan Goldsborough to be associate justice of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. The post, life tenure with a $10,000 salary, is a premier federal court seat, and confirmation will require Senate approval. Goldsborough, a long time Eastern Shore representative, would leave Congress to join the bench after the Senate acts.
