Roe Says He Is Too Busy For Congress Race

Senator Dudley G. Roe of Queen Annes County says he will not seek the Congress seat left by T. Alan Goldborough, citing heavy duties as Maryland Senate floor leader and administration ally. He plans to focus on state government and finances, remaining active in local grain business, education, and civic work.

Denton Volunteer Fire Co. Adds New Water Pump Engine

The Denton Volunteer Fire Company acquired a Hale Universal pump unit mounted on a Beck Chevrolet chassis. It carries 250 gallons of water, includes a 24 foot extension ladder and 12 foot roof ladder, a blinker light siren, a search light, and seating for three. Ministers Fight Sabbath Sales In Delmarva Conference

The Dover District Ministerial Association meeting at Union M E Church in Federalsburg opposed selling intoxicants or showing motion pictures on Sunday across Maryland and Delaware. Members urged petitions to legislators against bills allowing such practices. The 122 churches in Caroline Talbot Queen Annes and parts of Kent Counties Maryland and parts of Sussex and Kent Counties Delaware formed the group. Dr W P Roberts urged union of the three Methodist branches, noting support for the plan. Dr E C Hallman reported four district charges already increased pastor salaries with more increases planned, while he lamented a decline in the world service program yet praised rising fellowship. Dr Franklin Halstead Clapp outlined work of the Board of Home and Foreign Missions.

Denton Boy Scout News Court of Honor and events noted

Monday the Denton scouts travel to Easton for a Court of Honor and rally where several scouts will earn higher ranks and merit badges. Tenderfoot badges were awarded to Leslie Lutz Charles Horner Edward Croke and Jimmie Merriken. The exhibit moved to Mr Nichols store for viewing until Saturday or Monday. The handicraft contest progresses with Tom Wright winning slide requirements and Henry Detwiler second. The group works on letter openers and various designs. A board of review occurred February second with Willard Knotts reviewed on second class tests while Tom Wright George Theis and Archie Horner earned merit badges. Willard Knotts reorganized his patrol to Eagle, with Bill Darling assistant leader and Ed Croke scribe. Archie Horner led Flying Eagle patrol during illness of Bob Putman. Plans target second class by March 20 and a hike next Saturday. A play A Country Boy Scout is in rehearsal with parts assigned. A humorous caution notes audience should be ready for strong laughter.
