Dairymen urged to plan for fall milk production
Farmers should begin planning now to boost October December milk output for 1946. Maryland produced over a billion pounds last year but was weak in fall supply, prompting rationing in many markets. Recommendation: breed one third of cows and heifers in late January and February to freshen in fall, and breed cows that calved late in 1945 earlier than normal to cover the fall shortage.

Dairymen urged to plan feed for summer pasture shortfall
Dairymen should plan to grow extra supplementary roughage and feed grain when pastures run short to maintain milk production and keep cows in good condition. Fall freshening cows and heifers need ample feeding to reach calving time in good condition, paying off with higher milk production.
