Greatest Stamps of Entire World Campaign History
Officials estimate at least 100000 lives saved yearly in America by funds from the annual Christmas Seal tuberculosis campaign. The idea began in 1903 by Danish clerk Einar Holboell who proposed a voluntary tax on Christmas cards to aid tubercular children. The Red Cross joined in 1907, and by 1919 the seal bore the double barred cross emblem. In 1920 the sale moved to the Tuberculosis Association.
