Fire Destroys 15,000 Chicks At Ridgely Farm

An estimated 15,000 day-old chicks were killed in a fire at the Sparks broiler farm three miles from Ridgely. The blaze damaged the woodchip and straw flooring but was brought under control before Ridgely volunteers arrived. This marks the third year in a row with a Sparks fire affecting their Ridgely broiler operations.

Christmas Program At Greensboro Church

A temporary change in the Veterans Administration Denton contact schedule is announced for December. VA Representative John E. Murphy will be at the State Armory from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday December 30 to provide information on VA benefits. Regular schedule resumes Friday January 7, 1949.

Bobcats Beat Smyrna to Tie Mar-Del Lead on Hornets' Night

In a Mar-Del League duel at the Armory the National Guard Bobcats defeated the Smyrna Hornets 45 to 31 to move into a tie for the league lead with the Chestertown Collegians. Granville Diffie starred with 18 points as Bobcats seized control in the second half while Leo Slaughter added eight.

Federalsburg Leader Dies at 68

Harry M. Carroll former Federalsburg postmaster and Republican leader died at his East Central avenue home after a long illness. He served as postmaster from 1924 to 1936 and was active in Caroline county politics. Surviving are his wife Carrie L. Carroll son J Russell Carroll and sister Nettie Moore. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm at Union Methodist Church with Rev A T MacFarland. Interment in Federalsburg Crest Cemetery.

Farm Groups Elect Officers At Caroline County Meeting

At the annual Caroline County Farm Bureau gathering in Denton this week officers were elected and reports given. Howard Harris presided. Chas Dean, Mrs William Kent and Pierce Adams spoke along with Harry Harris, Harry Rieck and Harry H Nuttle. Directors for 1949 include Richard Roden, Thomas Ober, Frank D Zeigler, Howard Harris, Ross Robinson, Pierce Adams, John Eveland, Charles Dean, with William Gardner and Lee Murphy elected to at large terms. President is Mr Dean, vice president Mr Zeigler, secretary and treasurer Mrs Reese Brown.
