Denton residents are invited to decorate homes for Christmas as the Chamber of Commerce offers three cash prizes of 25 dollars, 15 dollars, and 10 dollars. An out of town committee will view the decorations during Christmas week December 24 to 31 and judge the best, second best, and third best displays.
The fall conference for Presidents and Secretaries of the American Legion Auxiliary Maryland Department met at the Emerson hotel in Baltimore. Committees outlined yearly work, highlighting gifts to hospitalized veterans and a successful Gift Shop at Perry Point Hospital. Caroline county delegates included Mrs. L Stevens Browne and others who attended the Saturday dinner honoring Mrs. William Kashman.
The Greensboro Homemakers Club held its Christmas party on December 14 at the W S C S Hall with a decorated setting. Committee members Mrs Florence Wothers and Misses Alberta Porter Annabelle and Irene Bilbrough led planning. various readings and carols entertained, a candy cane gift for each member, and snacks followed. Several members absent due to illness, yet all reported a wonderful time with games and gift fishing.
The selective service board announces two men inducted in November and three on December 1. Names Inducted in November include Anthony Luongo and Anthony Ostermann from Denton and Marydel. Inducted on December 1 were Medford M Crumble from Federalsburg Richard C North Jr and Michael J Seiler from Denton.
The Denton National Guard Bobcats rallied to edge Milford 61 to 58 after trailing at halftime. Led by Leo Slaughter’s lockdown defense on Milford star Marshall and Stan Prosen’s 20 second half points, Denton set up a key showdown with Smyrna Saturday night.
Greensboro Soccer Club and Denton Soccer Club meet at Schaub Park Sunday at 2 00 p m in a key Eastern Shore League matchup. Ridgely, last year’s champions, defeated Denton 2 1 in a close game as Kenney Bennington tied the score with a penalty and Bill Spence scored the winner in the final period.
Willis Alexander Tull Sr age 60 died at his Beaver Street home in Greenwood after months of illness. Born near Greenwood to the late Charles and Janie Smith Tull he farmed until ill health forced retirement. Funeral services were held at Greenwood Methodist Church Sunday at 2 PM conducted by Rev. J. E. Layton.
Governors Lane of Maryland Carvel of Delaware pledged active cooperation with the Peninsula Promotional Campaign and will attend a Salisbury meeting in March for a Del Mar Va sound movie. The drive aims to publicize the peninsula via a promotional directory film and local publicity efforts across Maryland Delaware and Virginia.
The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Baltimore City filed with the Public Service Commission a plan for temporary rate increases to raise about 2.45 million dollars in annual net income and asked to begin on or before February 15, 1949. The schedule would raise local service rates for residences, business, and other classifications, with Denton noting an overall daily impact under two cents for a residence.
The Rural Electrification Administration informs Congressman Edward T. Miller that $1,215,000 has been allocated to Choptank Cooperative in Denton Maryland for improvements, extension of electric service and completion of ongoing rural electrification projects.
The 531 electors met in 48 capitals the Monday after the election to cast ballots for president. Truman wins popular votes in 28 states for 304 electoral votes, Dewey 16 states 189, Thurmond 4 states 38. Tennessee may shift one elector from Truman to Thurmond. Malcolm Hill will vote Truman, Preston Parks undecided.
Mrs. Oscar Wyatt received notice of the death of her cousin Nat L Roe of Merced California who died December 5th. L W Taylor Sr was in Baltimore on Tuesday. Walter McClyments ill in Dover Hospital. Charles Kinnamon and family bought their son's residence on Church Street and moved this week. J R Meekins selling household goods Saturday. T C Horsey receiving treatments in Easton Hospital. L W Taylor Sr attended the funeral of his uncle Moore in Preston on Saturday. Wieneke family visited from Baltimore. L W Taylor Sr and granddaughter Diane in Philadelphia Monday.
Three hundred eighty five high school students and teachers from 37 Del marva schools attended the annual Career Conference sponsored by Golden College. After a bus tour of Wilmington and luncheon at the YMCA, delegates met business people and teachers in round table sessions on business office operations. Caroline High School attendees included Frances Alburger Judy Legg Helen Shaffer Joyce Baker Diane Crouse Norma Carroll Mary Ott Jean Fearins Dot Magrogan Florence Turner Louise Andrew and June Zinser.
