Maryland Farm Front 1947 Agricultural Goals for Maryland
Maryland farm leaders at a USDA Council meeting in College Park issued 1947 goals to boost crops by 43 000 acres over 1946. Corn would rise to 480 000 acres, tobacco to 50 000, tomatoes for processing to 50 000, with lima beans and other crops adjusted due to demand and storage. Livestock production also rises, with 30 000 sows planned, milk cows limited by replacements, and poultry and eggs use expected to drop with meat supply up. Surplus potatoes offered to livestock feeders at 20 cents per hundred pounds, and price trends for by product feeds noted as declines continue.
