Fuel Wood Can Be Increased Without Overcutting Forests

University of Maryland expert C F Winslow says Maryland fuel wood output can rise 15 to 20 percent this winter without cutting forests. He urges thinning dense stands and removing low value trees, noting labor shortages and transport limits hinder supply. Much wood waste from tops and limbs could be utilized to boost fuel supplies and curb fire risk. Early cutting is advised to season wood for efficient burning.
