Boy Hit by Freight Train in Goldsboro Tragedy
An 8 year old boy named Donald Hart was severely harmed when struck by a freight train near the Cooklyn milk plant in Goldsboro last Monday. He was dragged 90 feet after the locomotive struck him as he bicycled across the tracks. Hart and his parents reside in Goldsboro.

Raise In Postal Rates Sought
General Donaldson said he will ask the new congress to boost rates on all mail except first class. In a Pearl Harbor Day address to 250 Rotary Club members Senator Tydings warned the world situation remains bleak. Bridge Approach Low Bid Sets $197,397 on Shore project
The Williams Construction Company of Middle River bid $197,397.50 for the Western Shore roadway approach to the Chesapeake Bay bridge, described as slightly under the latest estimate. Eight bidders competed as the contract, including grading, drainage, and pave prep, may be awarded next week. Other bids ranged from $206,000 to $326,670 with several firms from Baltimore, Durham, and New York represented.
