Deer kill tally in Caroline County tops thirty eight

Horner reports thirty eight deer killed this season to Wednesday morning at the Caroline County deer checking station. Listed are hunters with weights and points from towns including Bridgetown Greensboro Tuckahoe Neck Den ton Harmony and Goldsboro.

Town Commissioners Plan Denton Zoning Commission and Board of Appeals

J Roland Chaffinch Dies After Long Banking Service

Funeral services were held for J Roland Chaffinch longtime Denton National Bank president and Caroline County civic leader who died Monday at Memorial Hospital Easton. Born June 12 1887 he joined the bank in 1912 rising to president in 1926. He and his wife Lenore Greensey had three children. The bank said assets grew from 1.4 million in 1926 to over 8.1 million this week.

Legion Holds Annual Meeting At Post Home

More than seventy members of the American Legion and Auxiliary of the North Eastern Shore District attended the Second District meeting at the Post Home last Sunday hosted by Mr. George Wise for Commander Beck and Mrs. Mike Malott for the Auxiliary. The luncheon featured ham and chicken salad puffs and the hall was decorated with yellow and lavender mums. District leaders led discussions on a citizenship essay contest and child welfare projects, with plans to support the Benedictine School for Exceptional Children at Ridgely and to distribute Christmas baskets and gifts. The year will close with the Legion and Auxiliary Children’s Christmas party on Sunday, December 18 at 4 p.m.

Maryland wool and lamb promo funds set for 1960 61

Wm. L. Dudley announced that funds for market promotion of wool and lamb will be deducted from National Wool Act payments for the 1960 marketing year. Rates will be 1 cent per pound for shorn wool and 5 cents per hundredweight for unshorn lambs. Funds support advertising and related activities under a 1959 referendum approved agreement.

Suzanne Vincent Named Miss Welcome for 1961

Suzanne Vincent of Lewes Delaware was chosen Miss Welcome for the 14th Annual Delmarva Chicken Festival at a Miss Delmarva Pageant Committee meeting. Vincent, a Beebe Hospital nurse, placed third in last year’s Miss Delmarva XIII Pageant and will attend poultry events to invite attendance at the 1961 festival.

Caroline County Garden Club Meets in Federalsburg

The Caroline County Garden Club met at the Woman's Club House in Federalsburg on November 30 with sixteen members. They made a large terrarium for the Christmas Greens Conservation Show at the Baltimore Museum of Art December 9 to 11, and started two smaller terrariums. District I Flower Show plans were announced, fundraising aims discussed, a nominating committee appointed, and a re created table setting highlighted the meeting. The club received a Veterans Administration certificate of appreciation for volunteer service at Perry Point.

Denton Group Endorses One Way System for Rt 404

The Denton Citizens' Committee votes to back the State Roads Commission plan System H for Rt 404 relief, establishing Franklin Street as eastbound and Gay Street as westbound one ways. Mayor Crouse says it is stop gap, aims to clear downtown congestion, with hopes for a future by pass.

Lanzola To Come Here On Waiver To Be Tried

Sam Lanzola of Greensboro agreed to waive extradition from Delaware to Maryland. He has been jailed at Kent County Correctional Institute in Dover and will be tried soon in Caroline County on false pretenses charges.

Woman's Club Christmas Meeting Well Attended

The gala Christmas meeting of the Woman's Club drew about 40 members and guests on Friday December 2. A paper Santa on a green table announced holiday cheer and collected 75 gifts for mental hospital patients. After the business session led by president Mrs Earl Crouse a two part program featured carols by Mrs James B Dike and a pageant directed by Mrs G H Rue with narrators and participants including Mrs J F Lane Mrs James B Dike Mrs O F Smith and Dr Elsie Billmeier. Decorating ideas for mantles end tables centerpieces and co ors using native greens were shown by Mrs L Jay Smith along with mantel and tree ornament tips. A new member Mrs R Dale Kollman was welcomed. Continued on page 4.

The Car oline County Business and Professional Women’s Club held its November meeting in the newly redecorated Woman’s Club of Denton. Guest speaker James A. Wise spoke on jury service and voting, with arrangements by Margaret A. Harris and Betty A. Bullock. Attendees included Lois E. Thompson and Helen Mason, plus Cambridge Club members Jessie Hooper and Nellie Marshall. The Christmas party is set for December 21 at Naomi H. Tribbitt’s home in Denton.

North Caroline High School PTA Meets on Wednesday

The North Caroline High School Parent-Teacher Association will gather next Wednesday evening, Dec. 14, at the school. Visiting teachers 7:15 to 7:45 p m. The program centers on Safety In Driving with talks on School Parking, Drivers Education, Driving Rules by a State Trooper, and Teen Insurance. Forty four Maryland Farm Bureau leaders depart Baltimore today to attend the 42nd American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention in Denver Colorado December 11 to 15. Resolutions on current farm problems will be drafted for the coming year. President Noah Kefauver leads the Maryland delegation with plans for committee work and input at the national meeting.

Christ Church Bazaar December 10 at Parish Hall

Christ Episcopal Church hosts a bazaar on Saturday December 10 from noon to 10 p.m. in the Parish Hall. A roast beef dinner is served 5:30 to 8 p.m. Featuring a white elephant sale bake fish pool special candies and plants. Proceeds aid building repairs.
