He outlines six measures including braking carefully, testing brakes on slippery mornings, maintaining safe following distances, using safety belts, ensuring clear vision, and carrying reinforced tire chains for traction on snow and ice.
H Bruce Ayars promoted from district executive to director of Exploring and public relations for the Del Mar Va Council. He will assume duties next week and travel the peninsula to grow teen programs and organize the Explorer Outfitting Base. He is an Eagle Scout and UD graduate with extensive training at Schiff Scout Reservation.
Caroline County officials weigh a three plan slate for consolidating schools with Federalsburg’s high school at risk. Board members express mixed support for a compromise that would keep Federalsburg’s school while building a central senior high for the county, amid town opposition to two-total-school cost and location concerns.
Trinity Methodist Church Goldsboro invites all to an ingathering service at 11 a.m. on December 9 to dedicate fruits of labor invested in the Lord's Acre projects. Rev. Sam Snyder, executive director of the Town and Country Church Development Program for the Middle Atlantic Area, will deliver the morning address.
The WSCS monthly meeting of the First Methodist Church Denton will be held Tuesday evening December 11 at 8 pm in Fellowship Hall. Children will lead worship and present a Christmas program. Committee on the program includes Mrs Norman Irwin Mrs Howard L Hager and Mrs George Goodley. Refreshments served by Circle No 3 led by Mrs James Harris.
Maryland farm leaders head south to attend the National Farm Bureau convention in Miami Beach December 9 through 14. More than 10 000 farmers are expected for the Vesper service and sessions with professional speakers. Delegates include Mrs W Atlee Armour and Mrs John Young with activities featuring Kennedy and Bridges as guest speakers and Maryland youth delegates in talent and talk meet events.
The Denton Community Club plans a December meeting program on Friday December 7 featuring interpretive dances depicting Christmas carols under Mrs Mary Holm from Caroline High School. Dancers perform Old English rounds What Child Is This and May God Bless All Friends Here with solos duets and groups, coordinated by announcer Etta Mae Henry and accompanist Russell Hall. Connie Koste will play piano numbers.
The Reverend George W. Goodley outlines Advent season programs at First Methodist Church. Activities include Christian Comrade Class Christmas dinner, WSCS meeting and Christmas program, children's worship program, Woman's Society Circles festive events, Young Adult Fellowship caroling, Senior Youth Dinner and carol service, preschool to junior department plans, Christmas musical by Youth and Adult Choirs, Candle lighting Service, and Student Recognition Day with Holy Communion to close the year.
Santa Claus plans to visit Denton Saturday at 2 p m to host his young friends after the Free Christmas matinee at the Dentonia Theatre. A parade to the Fire House will follow with treats for every child. Mrs Rue confirms Christmas carols begin December 19 with nightly songs.
The Double Hills Homemakers Club met November 27 at Mrs Milo Crane's home to discuss Relationships Between Three Generations with reporter Mrs Havel Krabill. Thirteen members and three visitors attended and chose A Simple Christmas Decoration. Plans were made to assemble baskets for the needy and donate a toy. A Christmas luncheon is planned for December 18 at Mrs Redmond Long's home.
Five people died of tuberculosis in Caroline County last year and twenty-two patients with active TB are in hospitals. Twenty-one new cases were reported, with six receiving home treatment. Incidence tops that of all Eastern Shore counties. TB is preventable and spread by contact, so control efforts must intensify.
