More than 200 farmers gathered at Caroline High School Denton Maryland for the annual membership meeting where officers were elected and reports given.

Eastern Shore League directors voted unanimously to adopt the Knotts Round Robin playoff system for the four top division clubs. Two-game semis start Sept 8 with home and home games, then finals in a best of seven. Purses reward winners and runners up, with adult gate price set at 90 cents.

Greensboro Athletic Association Formed for Community
The Greensboro Athletic Association was organized this week with a new constitution and bylaws. Officers include President G Linden Duffey Vice President G B Hastings Secretary R Jackson Pritchett Treasurer Dr P N Biggers and an executive committee with five members. The group aims to field baseball soccerball basketball teams, organize intra town leagues for softball horseshoes tennis and other activities, and support a park with picnic boating and swimming. A carnival is set for September 8 to 13 chaired by Thomas Smith. dues are two dollars annually with membership open to Greensboro residents.

Chicken Thieves Arrested in Maryland Case
Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman of near Denton reported about 22 chickens stolen on August 23. On August 24 Walter Collins of Goldsboro and Raymond Holden of Templeville were arrested and admitted thefts from Hoffman and others including Bertha Schulties of Greensboro on August 3 and Howard L. Pippin of Henderson on June 27. Holden was sentenced to four months and Collins to one year in the Maryland House of Correction, with Collins’ sentence suspended.

Woman Cuts Man At New Bridge Camp Fight
On Sunday August 22 at about 7 30 p m Richard Godfrey of New Bridge Camp was cut by Sarah Biddle after an argument. Godfrey was taken to Memorial Hospital Easton. State Police traced Biddle who left by taxi to Easton and then to Portsmouth Va. She was arrested at Easton bus terminal and jailed in Denton. She stood trial before Judge Dobson on August 23 and was fined $50 plus costs.

Four well known Carolineans died in the past week. Philip Worthington Downes of Denton aged 68, longtime county official and fertilizer agent, died after a long illness. Jessie T. Dennis, former Orphans' Court member born 1863, died after extended health decline in Preston. Charles H. Willis, retired accountant of Denton, died at a daughter’s home Blueball Maryland. Nellie Hollis Carmine, born Federalsburg 1873, died after years of illness.
