Mrs. William Kent announced the 1950 annual Farm Bureau Talk Fest is under way with county final decisions at a public speaking contest on October 1 1950. Topic is Utilization of and Distribution of Agricultural Products. Open to rural 18 to 28 year olds. no previous state winner may enter. County entries must speak for a county group and be certified by October 1. First place goes to the state regional contest for a blue ribbon.

The Immanuel Lutheran Church at Preston has chosen Lawrence Construction Company of Baltimore to build a semi Gothic church on the present site. The $150,000 plus project will rise with Mt Alrey granite, measuring 42 by 16014 feet and seating 336 in the main hall plus 50 in the gallery. Ground breaking occurred Sunday Aug 13 in a ceremony with about 230 attendees. The congregation traces to 1897 and has had a long tenure under Pastor L Geiger, with a history of several past pastors and a parochial school built in 1905.
