Winter Cover Push Seeks Broad Farm Planting Drive
County PMA committees launch a winter cover crop drive to ensure every acre of row crops has cover this season. James A. Cottman, acting chairman, says county PMA offices may issue orders to local suppliers to offset planting costs. The government offers 14 cents per pound for crimson clover or hairy vetch seeds and 8 cents for rye grass seed used for fall cover crops. A two day Eastern Shore Drainage Tour in Wicomico, Somerset and Worcester counties highlighted agency cooperation among Soil Conservation Service, Extension Service, Farm and Home Administration, Game and Inland Fish Commission, State Forests and Parks, and Farm Bureau to advance drainage, forestry and game preservation.
