Choptank River Dredging Planned At Pealiquor

Congressman Edward T. Miller reports funds are available for maintenance dredging of the Pealiquor section of the Choptank River south of Denton to relieve boat groundings at Pealiquor Shoal and improve water transportation. The District Engineer will place the project under contract soon. work expected to begin late summer or early fall after bidding.

Memorial Hospital Graduation Exercises at Avalon Theatre

Memorial Hospital holds its 42nd graduation for the Nursing School class. Governor Theodore Roosevelt McKeldin will address eleven graduates in Easton on August 28 at 8 15 p m. The ceremony includes diplomas by Dr William D Noble and pins by Miss Graziella McLean. The Baccalaureate service is August 24 at Ebenezer Church.

Local Holstein Field Day at Garland Lake a success

The twelfth annual Eastern Shore Holstein Field Day at Garland Lake near Denton drew 35 exhibitors and 63 animals. Fred Thawley of Denton topped the show with the Grand Champion Bull and multiple prises. Lois Richardson of Queen Anne's County won best 4-H heifer, judged by Dr Joseph Pou of the University of Maryland.

Legislative Council Holds Inspection on Eastern Shore Trip

Members of the Legislative Council began a three day inspection tour of the lower Eastern Shore counties meeting at Senator Layman J Redden's home in Cambridge for a morning session They met with Caroline County delegates and local officials before touring Dorchester County sites including the Eastern Shore State Hospital Wire Cloth Company and Phillips Packing Company The group stayed with Cambridge Yacht Club and Salisbury Country Club Then visits included chicken hatcheries processing plants and seafood packing houses One stop in Crisfield featured Briddell and Company Carvel Hall Cutlery and a dinner with Somerset County officials The tour focused on bay ferry use zoning laws and restricted roadside advertising along main highways near the Bay Bridge The final session was at Mrs Myrtle A Polk's home in Pocomoke City concluding with discussions on zoning and highway advertising amid rising Bay Bridge traffic

Washington College Evening School Program Begins September 23

The Washington College faculty will offer evening courses on campus for upper Eastern Shore residents. Registration opens opening night with a minimum enrollment of ten. Humanities Division includes art and music appreciation philosophy creative writing parliamentary law. Science Mathematics Division offers biology chemistry physics. Social Studies Division covers elementary accounting business law guidance counseling modern European history history of Maryland comparative government political thought and psychology courses.

Greensboro Man Critically Injured in Auto Crash

Greens boro resident Robert Henry Karcher was critically injured early Sunday when his car left the Boyce Mill road, struck a left-side pole, and sparked near a tree and home. He was taken to Easton Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Plans To Solve Water Problem Still Moving

Plans to address the West Denton water crisis progress with various proposed solutions. The town commissioners Dr Lingewald Mr Rasmussen and Mr Hall held a meeting, and the final outcome will be compiled next week. The discussions aim to end the quest for sufficient groundwater through test well drilling and support local livelihoods and merchants.

Scholarships Begin With Fall Term 1952 Awards at Washington College

Senator Layman J. Redden announced two Washington College senatorial scholarships for the fall term 1952. Patricia Browne, daughter of Mrs. Mabel W. Browne of Denton, a Caroline High SchoolAcademic Course graduate class of 1952, received the Rotary Award for five years. Michael Tuneff of Henderson, Greensboro High School graduate June 1952, also received a scholarship. Additional scholarships open to applicants include partial tuition at University of Maryland College Park, tuition at St Johns College Annapolis, and tuition at Charlotte Hall School.

Crowded Denton schools prompt grade shifts to new wing

Denton primary principal Mrs. Alice F Hig natt reports first grade enrollment of 90 fills the building. To relieve strain 38 third graders move to Caroline High School and 75 fourth graders join them. Finishing touches on the new addition will occur in opening months with several teachers named for grade assignments.

Dover Area Peeping Tom Suspect Captured After Chase

Edwin C. Halsey Jr., 33, of Henderson, was caught by a state trooper in a Saturday night chase after peering into the home of Delaware State Police Detective Joshua Bennett. He admitted visiting the Dover area about one night weekly for three months. Held on $200 bail for a Court of Common Pleas hearing Wednesday.

Caroline Schools To Open September 3rd

Caroline County will open schools on Wednesday September 3 at 8 00 a m EST. Teachers report September 2 at 8 00 a m EST for meetings with principals. First graders must present birth certificates unless already shown at a preschool clinic. Children turning six after December 31 are barred from entry until the next September.

Public Education Panel Explores Open Meetings Question

Rehoboth High School hosted a panel of superintendents principals teachers and board members from Delaware and Maryland to discuss The Responsibility of The Superintendent and The Board of Education In The Field of Public Relations. The session part of a University of Delaware Public Relations course drew 43 educators from 24 schools with lively debate on open board meetings and teacher tenure.
