Field Day Held By Recreation Assn

Denton Recreation Association concluded daily activities at Williston Lake with a Field Day on August 15. Numerous children participated in a picnic, swimming events, and novelty races, with awards donated by local merchants and businesses. Events spanned potato race to swimming and softball throws, with multiple age group winners listed.

Smokey Joe’s Final Run Set to EndBaltimore Love Point Service

The steamship Smoky Joe the Philadelphia will end its Baltimore to Love Point service on August 31 after Public Service Commission notification. The Baltimore and Eastern Railroad will suspend the passenger run but continue freight to Eastern Shore points via Sandy Point Matapeake ferry, with one daily round trip to date and a phased discontinuance following PSC authorization.

State Police Officer In Crash At Denton Intersection

Detective Sergeant Andrew Linhard of the Maryland State Police, from Greensboro, was in a collision Saturday at Fifth and Market Streets in Denton with a car driven by Erman Patrick of Garrett Park near Washington. Patrick, returning from Ocean City, failed to see the stop light. Linhard’s car overturned in front of a Market Street store. Both drivers were alone and not seriously injured.

Attendance ages fixed for school entry on Eastern Shore

Regulation in Caroline county and all Eastern Shore counties states children who are six on or before December 31 may enter school on September 3. Any child born after December 31 midnight is not admitted until the next September. No exceptions.

Denton to Play at Felton Sunday All-Star Date Set Next Week

Denton is slated to play Felton on Sunday with the All-Star date to be determined next week. Last Sunday results show Camden-Wyoming 7, Denton 4 and Denton 4, Camden-Wyoming 0, along with Chestertown 9, Hardy 4 and Rock Hall 12, Houston 7. Rash pitched the win for Denton while Bennett led Camden-Wyoming with three hits. Lane and Andrews each had two for Denton.

Willis & Cowell Co. earns a certificate of Mixing Accuracy for 1947 from Ralston Purina Co. of St. Louis for precise and uniform custom grinding and mixing at the local mill. Lab analyses show sample variation of .11 percent protein, well within the required tolerance. The certificate will be posted publicly to demonstrate reliability to farmers and feeders aiming for maximum production.

Public Health Staff Expanded by Miss Thomsen in Iowa

Caroline County public health department increases staff to five for an experimental rural bedside nursing program directed by Mrs Loretta Parsons. Miss Irma Thomsen from Davenport leads, with assistants Miss Mattie Smith Miss Catherine Allfather Miss Alice Woolridge. Thomsen trained at Mercy Hospital Davenport and George Peabody College Nashville and has worked in Egypt Greece and Hollywood before joining Cedars of Lebanon Hospital.
