Bata Store Manager Tops Sales in 30 Stores

John Niblet, manager of the Bata Shoe Store in Denton, won first prize in the Spring Sales Contest for a 26 week record across 30 stores in the district. Prix was a $250 check. He took over Denton store in Oct 1954, elevating it from bottom status to leading performance.

Medieval Jousting Tournament at Ridgely Labor Day

Ridgely Lions Club led by President Dr. C H Winnacott schedules a Labor Day event at 1 30 pm with Hon Lloyd Simpkins chairing the Charge to the Knights address. Martin Sutton named general chairman as 50 steeds prepare for rings joust and crown the Queen of Love and Beauty. Proceeds support Light Conservation work. Hurricane Connie Strikes Carolinas and Eastern Seaboard

Hurricane Connie tore ashore along the Carolinas then moved through Delaware Maryland and Pennsylvania. Winds near Myrtle Beach reached 120 mph while rains 7 to 10 inches caused flooding and hotel damage from Wilmington to Baltimore. The Levin J Marvel schooner sank near Annapolis with 14 dead and 13 saved. Local service lines were disrupted but repairs progressed by Sunday noon.

Maloney Family Plans Camp Todd Reunion

The Maloney family will hold their third annual reunion at Camp Todd on Silver Lake near here on August 28. If rain, the event moves to Church House at Concord. A basket lunch at 12:30 p.m. precedes a business meeting and program led by Mrs. Paul Maloney. officers are Miss Mildred Beauchamp president, Mrs. John Sharp vice president, Mrs. Robert Maloney secretary, and Mrs. Nelson Hubbard treasurer.

Marydel Carrier Retires After 45 Years Service

Howard B. Logan retired as a rural letter carrier after 45 years of service, 20 at Marydel Post Office. He began in 1910 on an 18 mile route, later worked a 53 mile Marydel route, and served under several postmasters. He received a 300 day sick leave balance and was honored at a surprise retirement party. He is active in Calvary Methodist Church, Lions Club, Marydel Volunteer Fire Company, and Rural Letter Carriers Association.

Lady And The Tramp Appears At Reese This Weekend

Power Boat Regatta Returns to Chestertown Yacht Club

Chestertown Md hosts a ten event regatta on Sunday August 28 reclaiming the Chester River Yacht and Country Club power boat schedule. The feature 266 cu in hydro race will compete for the Old Charter Trophy presented by Governor McKeldin with a sterling replica bowl for each winner. State Roads Employee Hurt In Fall

Mr. William T. Kraus of Preston was injured while helping remove a fallen beech tree along a dirt road from Sour Apple Tree road to Hobbs. He is a patient at Memorial Hospital in Easton.

Weekend Accident injures Two Motorists

Mildred H. Trice of Denton and George R. Quillen of Harrington were treated in Greensboro after a Sunday morning collision on Route 317, about 44 miles west of Burrsville. Quillen rear ended Trice, causing her car to overturn. both drivers face charges of reckless driving with an estimated $1,500 damage. Trial is set for Monday, August 22, before Magistrate W. A. S. Wright in Denton.

Bridgewater College Alumni Gather at Camp Mardela

Bridgewater College Alumni Association's Delmarva Chapter holds its annual gathering at Camp Mardela near Denton. A basket lunch opens the event in Krabill Hall Sunday afternoon August 28, with a 1:30 business session to follow. The agenda includes officer elections and two recommendations, including sponsoring Angel Luis Quintana of Cordova to enter Bridgewater College as Brethren-sponsored student. The group plans to mail invitations to members in Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and Virginia.

Unity Club Picnic At Garland Lake

Unity Club held a picnic at Garland Lake last Thursday evening enjoyed by members and families. Hosts were Mrs. Herbert Craft, Mrs. Chester Baker, and Miss Anne Voss who provided cold drinks cake cookies and hot dogs cooked by Miss Voss. President Mrs. Walter Fountain supplied cantaloupe salad and other dishes for the gathering. The next meeting is set for September 21 with hostesses Mrs. Francis Yeoman and Mrs. George Lowe.
