Dairymen Increase Use of Artificial Insemination In County
Caroline County farmers increasingly use artificial insemination. 104 dairymen bred 630 cows from Jul 1, 1949 to Jun 30, 1950, up 367 cows since insemination began. Frederick, Harford, Carroll, Garrett and Montgomery counties also bred over 2000 cows. The program boosts butterfat by about 10 pounds per heifer, lowers costs versus keeping a bull, and introduces proven sires such as Inheritor and new Jersey bulls Siegfried Remus Eierald and Geonnais Blonde.
