John Walter Smith Beck died August 2 at Mt. Wilson after a lingering illness. Born September 12, 1905, he lived in Denton and was one of the youngest clerks in Caroline county, later working for Baltimore Trust and DuPont in Wilmington. Survived by wife Este DeFord, son Robert, daughter Carolyn Ann, his mother, two sisters and a brother. Funeral held at his Franklin street home with burial in Denton cemetery beside his father. Pall-bearers named Stevens Browne, Clayton Long, W. H. Van Sant, Roy Slaughter, Louis Butler, Russell Porter.
George W. Townsend, 68, a Denton native and Philadelphia real estate man, died unexpectedly July 21 at his Atlantic City summer home. He was the son of the late Mary Mowbray and Benjamin F. Townsend. Survived by his wife, one daughter Mrs. Paul Mary of Philadelphia, two brothers and three sisters including Mrs. I. R. Fleetwood of Denton. Funeral and burial held in Philadelphia July 24.
