First Maryland Sales Tax Return Due August Fifteenth

The first monthly Maryland retail sales tax return forms will be mailed to over 40,000 license holders. Returns must reach Comptroller James J. Lacy at 15 West Baltimore Street, Baltimore, by August 15 for July sales. The form RSTD 3 requires detailed figures on gross sales, purchases, exemptions, and tax due, including a 3 percent collection expense deduction.

Greensboro Firemen Net 5117.01 after carnival

The Greensboro firemen reported a net of 5117.01 from the carnival held June 24 through July 7, marking one of the largest events in years thanks to firemen and many friends. At the Fire Company meeting Calvin Butler and others were elected as new members. A committee led by Byron Poore was formed to place the company name on the fire house and create a memorial plaque and honor roll.

Dentonians Win 7 To 3 as they top Greensboro

Denton defeated Greensboro 7 to 3 after a late surge with 4 runs in the 6th and 2 in the 7th. Orme, Rich, Lane and Harrison each had two hits to back a 11-hit Denton attack, while Miles started and Hughes finished for the winners.

Hospital Affiliate Is Formed At Denton

A Denton chapter of the Memorial Hospital affiliate for Easton Maryland was formed on Friday July 25 1947 at the home of Mrs. William S Orme with Mrs. kd Ellis Clark of Easton as president. The group aims to boost public relations raise funds support the Nurses Training School and assist hospital staff beyond clinical duties. Founding officers include Mrs. Walter Johnson president Mrs. Wm Orme vice president Mrs. Keys secretary Mrs. Lane treasurer and other committee heads. The organization will meet first Mondays monthly with the next gathering August 4 at 2 30 at Mrs Thomas Evernhams home.

Prizes Awarded At 4-H Meet Here

Fourteen 4-H girls won blue red and white ribbons at Garland Lake in a girls club contest as a precursor to the University of Maryland club week at College Park starting August 4. Awards went to Rita Ann Rogers in clothing. blue clothing winners included Elnora Hoffman, Genevieve Poore, Martha Ann Zeigler and Mary Saulsbury. Top food exhibit awards went to June Jackson, Poore, Lennon, Galloway and Zeigler. canned products winners were Ruth Cherry, Wilsie Davidson and Mary Joyce Crouse. The Caroline County Farm Bureau awarded a scholarship to Anne Richard of Henderson, with Ridgely Farm Bureau group and Ridgely Home Makers Club contributing 10 toward another scholarship for Wilsie Davidson. Twenty-two 4-H girls plus Miss Spafford and Mrs. Clifton Crouse will attend club week sessions.

Awards announced at the Kent Sussex Fair include entries from Maryland. Winners include Frances Fisher Denton for plain sewing. Amanda Fisher Ridgely for multiple canned goods and meat items. John Ebling Ridgely and Mrs. Amanda Fisher Ridgely for several corn and sausage categories. Hiram Kenton Greensboro for decorative dahlias. James A Trazzare Denton for hooked wool rugs.

Latex Employees Share Company Profits At Playtex Park

In a colorful Dover ceremony at Playtex Park International Latex Corporation distributed its ninth profit sharing bonus to its workers. A N Spanel explained the pattern, citing Eastman Kodak in Rochester as a model and noting the company founder’s long view of employee benefits and growth.
