Cucumber Crop Disappointed Maryland Growers This Year
The Caroline county crop for cucumbers fell short of expectations with reduced total acreage and large fruit carryover forcing processors to seek smaller cucumbers. Growers struggled to hire workers for small harvests and some large cucumbers were brought back to market. Tomato prospects look good overall though late blight risk lingers with weather conditions. A new Garden State tomato variety shows promise, and pruning advice for red and black raspberries is given along with market reporting plans to start soon in Baltimore.
