Rotary Club Welcomes District Gov Tuesday Visit

The Rotary Club hosts Donald L. Chamberlin district governor of Rotary International District 762 for his annual visit to area clubs. He will address members, confer with President James R. Chaffinch Jr and others, and discuss administration and service activities. We note his extensive civic roles and Maryland base in Kenwood.

Girl Scout Executive Praises Local Council

Miss Bobbie Wash of Washington DC, national staff member and regional adviser, praised the Peninsula Girl Scout Council for progress since its April chartering. She noted increased troop enrollment, larger staff, more volunteer activity, and strong local interest during a Salisbury visit. She met with Council leaders to plan national services for 1959 1960 and led a volunteer recruitment training with many Salisbury area participants.

New Television Tower Set to Activate Sunday Night

Television viewers in the area will gain a new viewing experience as a television tower is activated Sunday night at eleven. The launch promises improved reception and clearer broadcasts for local subscribers and nearby communities.

Ridgely Station Becomes Part Time Agency Under Queen Anne

Ridgely Station of the Pennsylvania Railroad ceases full time operation and moves to Queen Anne Md. Agent C W Guthrie will split duties between Ridgely 8 9 am and 3 4 30 pm and Queen Anne 9 15 am 2 45 pm Monday through Friday. Ridgely Saturday Sunday closed. F L Slaughter shifts from Ridgely to Middletown Del as new station agent. Guthrie, a former Ridgely agent, will maintain local patronage and service.

Red Cross hurricane safety tips from Caroline Chapter

The Caroline Chapter of the American Red Cross issues ten hurricane safety tips for Gulf and Atlantic coast residents. It urges following Weather Bureau reports, securing loose items, boarding windows, evacuating when ordered, avoiding low areas, staying indoors, avoiding windows, calmly enduring any eye lull, and stocking water and nonperishable food with light sources ready.

Caroline County 4-Hers Attend Maryland Club Week

Sixty two 4-Hers from 22 clubs in Caroline County travel to College Park for Maryland State 4-H Club Week accompanied by local leaders and county extension staff. The group includes both girls and boys with scholarships funded by various clubs and organizations. Leadership duties are held by Nancy Lister, Claire Downs, and Sarah Lane as part of the Trail staff.

County teens attend U M conference on highway safety

Five teen age drivers from Caroline County joined more than 150 delegates at a three day University of Maryland program to study methods to reduce highway fatalities. Topics included licensing procedures traffic laws and law enforcement respect.

Brethren Conference For Workers With Older Adults

A national conference on Training Workers with Older Adults is sponsored by the Church of the Brethren and set for August 24 to 26 in North Manchester Indiana. Leaderial figures include Rufus B. New Bay Bridge Sets Record Weekend Traffic Peak

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge posted its strongest weekend ever with 53,482 crossings over Friday through Sunday, beating the prior three day high. Saturday saw 19,251 crossings, Sunday 28,?041, and Sunday’s peak flow reached 1,132 vehicles per hour.

Youth Convicted In Grove House Breaking

A 19 year old Negro youth, George Alfred Butler, was convicted of breaking and entering Ida Nepert's Grove dwelling in lower Caroline County on May 28. Judge Edward D. E. Rollins suspended sentence and ordered the defendant to leave Maryland. Butler's probation was suspended before, and the original two year suspended sentence in the Maryland House of Correction was imposed after a probation violation tied to a separate garage burglary near Denton.

Brown-Liden Reunion At Dublin Hill August 16th

The Brown Liden family reunion will be held Sunday August 16 1959 at Dublin Hill Community House off Route 404 near Bridgeville Delaware. Host Clarence A Brown of Bridgeton New Jersey will lead a covered dish luncheon at 1 pm. Greenwood’s Gootee S Brown will preside over a short business meeting to honor the oldest man and woman and the youngest member, with annual officer elections.
