Maryland Farm Front This Week on Wheat Allotments

Maryland's farm front this week reports that 1964 feed grain program eligibility will not require exact wheat allotment containment on compliant farms. W L Dudley outlines that maintaining conserving-use acreage ensures excess wheat hurts another soil-depleting crop. A substitution provision was considered but rejected after review with agricultural leaders and the National Agricultural Advisory Commission. A new law allows increases in 1964 feed grain bases for those who planted up to 30 acres of home-use wheat under the feed wheat exemption in 1959 1960 or 1961, equal to the three-year average of such plantings.
