1964 Delmarva Chicken Festival Set For Easton

The 1964 Delmarva Chicken Festival will be in Easton June 18 19 and 20 with DPI Festival Committee chair William H Rodney announcing dates after a planning meeting with John Noble and DPI representatives. The National Chicken Cooking Contest will again headline the three day event co sponsored by The Poultry and Egg National Board and the Delmarva Poultry Industry Organization. Ed Cowell DPI president elect noted civic leaders across Talbot County will help stage the event and aim for the biggest and best yet.

Delaware State Fair Opens At Harrington July 27

The Delaware State Fair opens in Harrington on July 27 and runs to August 3 with a record number of exhibitors vying for cash prizes and ribbons. Guests include Frank Fontaine Brenda Lee Les Paul and The Four Seasons with events such as Joie Chitwood Auto Thrill Show auto races harness racing and a large midway. Gov. Carvel and other officials attend Governor's Day August 1. Senior Citizens Day offers free admission for those over 60.

Rehoboth Art League Members Show Awards Soon Published

The Rehoboth Art League will post awards on Sunday July 21 for the Silver Anniversary Members Exhibition featuring 78 artists with paintings carvings and sculptures. A jury includes Mrs Joseph L Marshall Richard E Hatch and J R Gervan.

Brown Liden Reunion Set for August 11 at Todd's Hall

The Brown Liden families plan their annual reunion Sunday August 11 1963 at 1 pm at Todd's Community House along Greenwood Denton Route 16. Walter Breeding of Federalsburg will lead a brief business meeting and honor the oldest and youngest present. Hosts Mr and Mrs Joseph C Brown of Severn Md invite relatives to a covered dish luncheon at 1 pm and to join in reminiscences.

Dutch Girl To Attend CRHS For One Year

Wilhelmina Johana Kuhn a 17 year old Dutch girl will join Col Richardson High School for the 1963 1964 school year as an exchange student. She will live with Mr and Mrs Herb Horton in Federalsburg and arrive in New York on August 15. Her father is a Dutch journalist and cartoonist of Captain Rob. Willie Kuhn speaks English French and German and enjoys sailing rowing and skating. Her placement in a class is to be determined.

Pilgrim Holiness Camp Held At Denton July 26 to August 4

The 61st Pilgrim Holiness Camp Meeting in Denton runs from Friday July 26 through Sunday August 4 with Rev. Mark Hf. Bowman as director. Evangelists include Rev. Phillip Doyle Rev. J. P. Trueblood and song evangelists Rev. and Mrs. Russell Davis. Special services include District Youth Conference Baptismal Service Missionary Day and more. Accommodations available at cottages and trailer spaces with new facilities and ample parking near the tabernacle set on about 11 acres just outside town.

Report Of District Claims Officer For The Past Year

District Claims Officer Roy V. R. Grogan Sr presents a yearly report detailing retroactive pay totals for various veteran groups, 12 month incomes, and grand totals. The report notes 22 World War veterans, 17 death or funeral awards, widows pensions and Social Security figures, and overall payroll figures. It states nine veterans sent to VA Hospitals, mentions specific service branches, state bonuses, and disability ratings. The office will close in August and reopen September 3, with thanks to aides Marvin Smith, D Ralph Thorsey and Charles Moore.

Marshyhope Watershed Project Tour Explains Plan

Soil Conservation Supervisors town officials and civic leaders from Caroline County and Federalsburg joined a Friday tour of the Marshyhope area. The group visited Eickmen Slickman Woodenhawk Bridge Smithville Pond and the Tollewilde Inland Game Refuge noting drainage issues to be relieved by the project. Field work has been completed and, if approved, plans will be submitted for agency review and Congressional approval.

Review of Maryland Traffic Fatalities Week

Six people died on Maryland highways last week per a Maryland State Police weekly survey. Three drivers and three passengers died. alcohol in three deaths, speed in three, and driver error in all. Maj. Davidson notes a consistent pattern and urges adherence to laws and personal limits to reduce fatalities.

Loyalty Pledge Out For Farmer ASC Group

A farm dispute over a loyalty pledge for county and community ASC farmer committeemen ended with its removal from the latest USDA regulations issued this week. The March 1 1963 rules had required pledge signing to support government farm programs, sparking protests from Farm Bureau and members of Congress. A Kenneth Miller of Maryland Farm Bureau hailed the reversal as a victory against bureaucratic control. Committeemen will now sign a statement to honestly and fairly perform their duties.
