Maryland Farm Bureau asks for an agricultural disaster designation due to a severe winter feed shortage. Board of Directors, representing 10,050 farm families, voted unanimously on August 8 to urge the Governor to seek federal action for hay and grain relief under existing laws. Old Time Wheat Threshing At Layton Farm Saturday
More than a thousand people from several states gathered at James L. Layton’s Chestnut Grove farm near Federalsburg on Saturday, August 9, to view traditional wheat threshing. The event featured two old steam threshers, a gas engine exhibit, a home-built traction engine, and a portable saw mill, with children enjoying straw play and wagon rides. Red Cross Presents Annual Water Show at Federalsburg
Caroline County Red Cross staged its first annual water show at Chambers Park Federalsburg on August 10 with William L. Price as announcer and all participants volunteering. Praise was given to Mrs. Warren B. Hopkins for water safety leadership. several aides received certificates and pins. Ronnie James 13 earned a citation for a swift rescue during a class, using skills learned in a recent water safety course. Demonstrations covered starts, strokes, dives by junior and senior lifesavers, clown diving, synchronized swimming, rescue drills, and appreciation for all volunteers. Water shows are planned at Garland Lake August 17 and Pine Crest Camp August 28.
