Denton officer appointed combat leader in Maryland Guard unit
Lt. Col Elward W. H. Tawes announced that John H. Messick of Denton was appointed to Commission of Ist Lieutenant in Caroline County's National Guard Unit Company B effective April 10. Messick, a three year Marine veteran, will serve as Platoon Leader and Unit Training Officer, boosting Co B Denton's strength to three officers and 68 enlisted men.

Four Caroline County towns held elections with shifts in leadership. Henderson elected four new officials to two-year terms, Greensboro chose two new commissioners, Federalsburg named a new mayor and one council member, and Ridgely elected Ross Simons unopposed to replace Henry Fleming.
