Denton Beauty Wins Miss Greensboro Title at Contest
Denton girl Bonnie Bilbrough, 17, North Carolina High School senior, won the Greensboro beauty contest held Friday night. Runner-up was Denton’s Ginny Downs, with Alice Christopher winning the Junior Beauty title. Bilbrough, chosen over five by Delmarva Poultry Industry judges, will represent Greensboro in the Miss Delmarva pageant at the Delmarva Chicken Festival in Salisbury next month.

At the Caroline County Historical Society spring meeting in Ridgely Jack Boulais and a slate of officials were unanimously reelected. The event featured a reception and exhibits prepared by Mrs. Clara Mitchell and Mrs. Edith Merriken, a well flavored dinner, and resolutions urging more emphasis on Caroline County history in high school curricula and opposition to renaming Colonel William Richardson School. Ted Giles of Talbot County spoke on his book Patty Cannon Woman of Mystery.

Groundbreaking for enlarged Caroline County Court House
Tuesday marked a historic milestone as the Caroline County Commissioners broke ground at 11 a.m. with gold shovels to begin a 350,000 project adding two wings a new facade and enlarged offices. Completion is slated about 10 months away with weather and steel supply the main risks.

Public Pier Regulations Adopted at Choptank
County Commissioners adopt regulations for boat docking at the Choptank public pier. A resolution passed April 27 allows issuing slips permits starting July 1. Complete rules will be posted at the pier and advertised in county papers before July 1. Additional facilities may be considered based on the new regulations.

Beer license suspended for Ann V Ewing in Delaware line bar
The Caroline County Liquor Control Board fined Ann V Ewing a 60 day suspension after a hearing last week. State's Attorney James Owen Knotts charged that two minors drank beer on the premises at Ann's Bar on Route 404 near the Delaware line. The board noted a prior warning on March 23 not to violate other beer laws.

Sophie Kerr's Ashes To Be Interred Here
The ashes of Sophie Kerr Underwood, author and former Denton resident, will be interred in Denton cemetery tomorrow May 7 at 2 p.m. She died February 7 at age 84 in New York. Moore Funeral Home of Denton handles arrangements.

May Music Festival Schedule Changes at Lockerman High
School officials switch from outdoor to gymnasium concerts to avoid rain and lengthy programs. On May 13 the senior high glee clubs from Col Richardson Lockerman and North Caroline perform solo and as a mass chorus at 8 p.m. at Lockerman High gym.
